• Having a good collection of prizes this year, we went 4-deep with this award to the fastest team performances tonight. The "Fast Young Lady" did a superlative job of pushing the "Slow Old Man" to an all-time WTT/OTT/ATT 15km team record time of 19:32. Note that this is faster than either Warren or Sue have ridden individually yet this year! Actually, the fastest six team entrants this evening all broke the 40km/h mark, this being the biggest number ever to do so apart from in the better attended 2003-Aug-26. The prizes given were a $25 gift certificate from Cora's for our top team and various pairs of cycling socks for the others.

Fastest WTT Rider of the Season

• Ellen Pazdzior (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 38.832 km/h).
  
  Ellen came out at the top of this ranking, as she has done eight times since the WTT series began in 1989 - 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994 (her fastest year), 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006. Her prize was a $30 gift certificate for "The Works".

Category Performance Awards

Here is the list of the category performance prize winners:
• PWF: Peewee Females - Females who turn 10-12 years old in the year of the race (1 qualifier)

  1.

  Ingrid Krausbar (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 24.655 km/h). Note that Ingrid is only the second girl in the Peewee category to ever complete five 15km time trials in any one WTT season, with Julie Peltz being the other Peewee who rode way back in 1993. We awarded Ingrid for her excellent rides with a yellow jersey.

  
  
• CAF: Cadet Females - Females who turn 15-16 years old in the year of the race (1 qualifier)

  1.

  Stephanie Clarke (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 31.516 km/h). Stephanie has been riding time trials since she was a Peewee in 2001. Tonight she enjoyed a quick ride (24:15) with John Large as team "Large Clarke". We awarded Stephanie with a 2 hour coaching session from Peak Performance Coaching.

  
  
• VAF: Veteran A Females - Females who turn 30-39 years old in the year of the race (2 qualifiers)

  1.	Kathy Bradley (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 36.986 km/h). Kathy began riding the WTT series in 2005, and she has improved considerably over that time. She was awarded with a blue Giro helmet as her prize for being the fastest in the Veteran A category.
  2.	Karen Byskov (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 29.495 km/h). Karen, entered tonight as "Tean NERAK" with a season's personal best time of 28:56 has ridden WTT events since 2002. She received a purple Bell helmet as her prize for being second in the VAF category.

  
  
• VBF: Veteran B Females - Females who turn 40-49 years old in the year of the race (8 qualifiers) Since this was the largest and most competitive category this year, and there were a number of people who needed to clean their chains and pull up their socks(!), the following awards were given:

  1.	Ellen Pazdzior (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 38.832 km/h). As already mentioned, Ellen is a long time participant who has been at the top of the rankings many times. She couldn't ride tonight, but was awarded with a $50 gift certificate from Bushtukah for her top VBF ranking.
  2.	Nicole LaViolette (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 36.981 km/h). Nicole has been amongst the fastest participants in the WTT series since its inception in 1989. In fact she was first overall in 1992, 1999, and 2000, and second a number of other times. Tonight she rode with Lisa Hé as "The Magical Merlins" in a time of 23:57. Nicole received a jersey from "Fresh Air Experience as her 2nd place VBF award.
  3.	Zoe Panchen (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 35.923 km/h). 3. Zoe, our resident "ironman" came out to ride 13 WTT events this year. She was even out there for "The HOT One!" - Aug 1, also her birthday, when the humidex reached 46°C. Zoe received a blue jersey from Full Cycle as her prize.
  4.	Pippa Lawson (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 35.597 km/h). Pippa has ridden in the WTT series since 1997. She was away on a canoe trip tonight, and upon her return received a chain cleaner for her 4th place prize in the VBF category.
  5.	Lindsey Bellinger (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 35.456 km/h). Lindsey rode tonight with her husband Ted, who is on the mend from a broken hip sustained in the spring, appropriately with the team name of "Broken Bellinger". She was given a pair of white socks for her Veteran B ranking. You may click here to see Lindsey's WTT performances since she began riding them in 2004 - she has had one of the most gradual and consistent improvement in her speeds of any competitor.
  6.	Lisa Hébert (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 34.268 km/h). Lisa did eleven WTT rides in 2006. As already mentioned, she rode in the "Magical Merlins" team with Nicole LaViolette in a time of 23:57. Lisa received a pair of white socks for her VBF ranking.
  7.	Dianne Marleau (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 33.395 km/h). This was Dianne's first year as a participant in the WTT series. Tonight she rode with her husband Neil Farish in a time of 25:05 under the name "Il Lampo & Pokey". Dianne was awarded a pair of black socks.
  8.	Karen Jardine (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 33.044 km/h). Karen has been riding in the WTT series since 2004. Tonight she did 27:02 as the "Bianchi Babe". She was given a pair of black socks as her VBF prize.

  
  
• VCF: Veteran C Females - Females who turn 50-59 years old in the year of the race (2 qualifiers)

  1.	Nancy Manning (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 35.667 km/h). Nancy, who has been riding in the WTT series since 2000 was in first place for the Veteran C women. She received a pair of shoe covers from Peccos along with a $10 gift certificate from Cora's.
  2.	Celia McInnis (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: km/h). Celia has ridden in this series since 1989, and continues to enjoy riding and, since 1998, providing a web service for it. Tonight she rode with Michael Coldwell as "Numb and Number" in a time of 25:04. Celia received a Camelbak as her prize.

  
  
• VDF: Veteran D Females - Females who turn 60-69 years old in the year of the race (1 qualifiers)

  1.

  Mary Ajersch (Average Speed of Fastest Five 15km WTT rides: 34.879 km/h). Mary Ajersch has been an inspiration since she began time trialling back in 1991 in her 51st year - not just for the high quality of her athletic performances, but also for her lively spirit and focus on the positive, even in the face of injury and serious illness. Tonight she rode with Richar Paul in a time of 24:23 as "The Mary Widow(er)s". Mary reveived shoe covers from Peccos and a $10 gift certificate from Cora's for her VDF award.





Honourable Mention Young People's Category Prizes

This year, for the first time ever, we had one Bibit girl, Klara Bauermeister, ride in the WTT series. She rode two of our 15km events with a spin of the pedals that was the envy of many of us. Her first attempt was completed in 36:22 - an average speed of 24.748 km/h - while her second venture was even quicker at 26.100 km/h, 34:29! Fantastic!!! Klara received a pair of Merrell shoes from Peccos as an award.




Most Improved Awards

1.	Karen Byskov. She received a Cycle Fit Spin Package.
2.	Jane Hammingh. Jane was also given a Cycle Fit Spin package.
3.	Stephanie Clarke. Stephanie was given a chain cleaner.

Karen Byskov was about 2.5% ahead of the nearest competitor in terms of the average of her performance ratios relative to her previous best in the 2006 WTT series - i.e. from this. Other riders were much closer together, and it was not possible to differentiate the improvements via such a simple method under the more variable weather conditions. The other awards were chosen by some of the volunteers, and the improvements of Jane Hammingh and Stephanie Clarke over the past two seasons are quite noteworthy.

Highest Participation Award

	Winner:Celia McInnis (prize - a bike computer). Celia participated in all 17 of the pre-Invitational 2006 WTT events.
